Favorite Finds – Feb. 23

Night Rhymers at Beans & Leaves

Saturday night I went and saw some friends in their improve troupe, Night Rhymers, perform at Beans & Leaves. It was my frist time at Beans & Leaves. It’s a cool coffee shop. They have a good set up for a make-shift stage that helps project voices. I filmed the video above for them.

Crazy Brain

This my brain too sometimes.

Did you know: There is a reply to “Liar, Liar, pants are on fire.” Come back with, “I don’t care, I don’t care, I can buy another pair.”

Favorite Finds – Feb. 16

I’m starting a weekly post of my favorite things I’ve found during the week. Let’s see how this goes.

Doctor Who Jokes

Saved by the Doctor
Are you a weeping angel?

50 Shades of Domestic Grey

I love SMBC Theater’s shorts.

Now!

Paramore’s new song, Now, has been stuck in my head. Their music video was released this week and it’s awesome. And the ending, chokes me up a bit.

Harlem Shake v.6669

I may be a bit late, but I actually learned about the Harlem Shake meme this week. I’ve heard of it, but I just never paid any attention to it and knew exactly what elements are in the Harlem Shake. They seem like a fun video to make. IGN’s was cleverly nerdy. The video above is a Not-Safe-For-Work harlem shake made by a guy I know locally for a business. There’s just so much going on.

No Fun Intended Interview

If you missed my time on No Fun Intended earlier this week, the podcast is online here. Here’s how they described the show:

We’re back!

Super stoked to be back in the FUNDERDOME and return to TheSpyFM.com!

Joined for our triumphant return, just in time for Valentine’s Day, by a fabulous panel of guests that included farmer/artist (fartist?) Samantha Lamb, super-comedian James Nghiem, and author Dennis Spielman. We discussed the finer things to do with your significant other/fuckbuddy on VDay, as well as donkeys, JJ Abrams, Han Solo, high-school reunions, duck-murder, and THEN still answered your emails!

THANKS SO MUCH FOR LISTENING!

The show was great! I was, they believed, their first book author on the show. Anyway, listen to my second podcast interview I’ve ever done (the first one being on The Time Traveling Troupe).

Uncovering Oklahoma: Tulsa Glassblowing School

It’s been awhile since I’ve made a video for Uncovering Oklahoma. The Tulsa Glassblowing School is a non-profit arts organization in Tulsa. Not only do they sell glass blown art, people can come and watch them work any time the doors are open. The place was pretty neat. I visited them back in October, but with the date idea book, I’ve just now gotten around to making this video. I did a different interview style where I’m not in the shot so I was able to edit the video to improve the pace. It turned out great.

My KFOR Interview

Today was my live TV interview on the local news station, KFOR, with Oklahoma royalty, Linda Cavanaugh, talking about my book, Uncovering Oklahoma’s 2013 Date Idea Book. (I was asked on Facebook by a friend if I was knighted by Linda, which I wasn’t…this time.) I arrived shortly after 4 pm and met up with the producer, Tara Blume. Tara and I talked about the interview process, the places I would be mentioning, and their order so they could have video syned up to show what I was talking about. We had talked via e-mail in advance so she could have the footage ready of the places.

The amazing places that I talked about were Syrup, Sam Noble, Andy Alligator’s, Hey Day, Oklahoma River Cruises, t urban teahouse, and OKC Improv. There were supposed to be three different scenarios: young couples, married couples, and a road trip date which had Bedre, Turner Falls, and Air Donkey Zipline, however, the road trip date was cut short due to breaking news. I’m totally cool with that because I got some time to promote the book.

My experience being there was so unreal. The newsroom where I hung out had a small, well-oiled crew. Everything just seemed so smooth and efficient from my perspective. Tara was great. Linda was really nice. I left her a copy of the book. They didn’t do hair, make-up, or anything like that on me, although, I did come there looking awesome.

I have to thank my friend, Charmaine, for getting my foot in the door there! Thank you!

I also distributed copies of the book for sale at Full Circle Bookstore, I.V.C. Gallery, and Put A Cork In It. It has been a busy day. I hope all of this work pays off. Goodnight!
