I have a new, previously unreleased Yes! Science! interview from last year. As personal matters came up for Ofelia, I never did get the final approval to publish until recently when I had reached out about the Yes! Women in Science! documentary. Since this video was recorded last year, it’s part of the season two collection, however, I have swapped out the old logo for the new one. Enjoy!

Ofelia Cancio graduated from The University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Professional Bachelor of Architecture. She spent five years working as part of a structural bridge design team prior to moving into her current position at Huitt-Zollars, Inc. as a Civil Engineer EIT focusing on urban land and infrastructure development. While studying architecture, Ofelia traveled to Europe to study urban planning and conduct analysis of the “walkable city” design sensitivity on different scales of the human environment. In engineering school, she conducted research on the performance of underdrain systems for bridge abutments in Oklahoma and the surrounding states.

She is passionate about place-making, improving infrastructure, and designing healthy communities in which people and businesses can flourish and thrive. She is a sustainability champion for Huitt-Zollars, a member of the Oklahoma Bricktown Design Review Committee, a member of the Oklahoma Chapter for Urban Land Institute, Chair of the Academy of Engineering for Capitol Hill High School, and is actively engaged in her community by mentoring young women and men who are interested in the built environment.
