The Stone Lion Inn

Taming The Stone Lion Inn

“The Stone Lion Inn Bed & Breakfast in Guthrie, Oklahoma has been featured in numerous books and TV series for its ghost stories. Sam and Geoff team up with The Okie Show Show podcast to check out the paranormal activity in a place that the owner refers to as being “a house with issues.”

Do I have some behind-the-scenes stories for you about this episode! This whole visiting the Stone Lion Inn was an idea from Brian of the Okie Show Show. He thought it would be fun to do a crossover episode where we would be in character for his show. Since it’s established that Tales Unveiled is a podcast in the show itself, it was natural to work everything in. When recording with them, both Jeff and I would’ve made some jokes, but we held back to keep in character. It was a fun episode to record with a dynamic contrast to our seriousness with the Okie Show Show’s comedy.

True story: The scene with the front door being locked really did happen. However, that’s not the only spooky thing to happen to us.

There are some differences between our two episodes. In Tales Unveiled, we have a prologue with Geoff and Sam exploring the house. The introduction to the interview on Okie Show Show is different than how it happened with Brian leading the discussion. In Tales Unveiled, we stopped recording after the ghost stories, however, the interview continues in Okie Show Show with them talking about making movies at the Stone Lion Inn.

The last scene of the Okie Show Show interview has all of us trying to talk with the spirits in the dark. Being in character, I kept saying there was no such thing as ghosts. When the lights turned on, one of the bulbs burst as if it were a sign. Brain did record this on video if you dare to watch it.

Tales Unveiled is a production of The Show Starts Now Studios and is produced by me, Dennis Spielman. The voice of Sam Saxton is Dennis Spielman. The voice of Professor Geoff DeRoot is Jeff Provine. Featuring Brain, Laney, Nicholas, and Rebecca as themselves.

RIVERSCREAM

Oklahoma City’s Boathouse District has been struck by terrestrial gamma-rays, transforming RIVERSPORT into RIVERSCREAM. Help contain the zombies before they escape and terrorize the city by maneuvering the challenges on the six-story Sky Trail to find explosive transformers proven to reverse the effects of the gamma-rays.

Mike Knopp, OKC Boathouse Foundation Executive Director; and John Riggs, Senior Director, Operations and Events share what courageous citizens can do at the family-friendly RIVERSCREAM on Fridays and Saturdays in October.

I had fun filming this story on Friday. I believe it was Mike’s idea to have a zombie in the background for the interview and it was my suggestion that the zombie attacks him at the end. I’m happy with the creepy fog shots I was able to obtain. With my camera, I couldn’t harness up and do the sky trail, however, there was a spiral staircase that I was able to use and get some great shots. As both Mike and John said in the video, climbing the sky trail at night is a different experience.

A Minute with Hopdoddy

Dennis here for a Minute with Hopdoddy. Hopdoddy Burger Bar describes themselves as “a creative, from-scratch burger and beer joint with a friendly neighborhood vibe.” I was invited to the opening of their second Oklahoma location at Chisholm Creek in Oklahoma City where I tried two of their burgers, the parmesan truffle fries, Oreo Milk Shake, and lemonade. All of which I have to say was delicious and I’m thankful that they had paper towels at the table.

Fun Fact: They can booze up all of their milkshakes for you. On the subject of booze, they also have a selection of local and regional craft beers to go with your meal. While Hopdoddy is in several states, they do source items locally, including making their buns in-house.

Now for the Burgers. Wanting something different, I ate two of their untraditional burgers, the Llano Poblano and the Ahi Tuna, with the latter tasting like sushi in burger form with an added crunch from the nori chips. The Llano Poblano had Applewood Smoked Bacon, Tillamook Pepper Jack, Seared Poblanos with chipotle aioli.

This video is for a new segment I’m calling A Minute With Series, in which I’ll be doing short videos about interesting things to consider visiting.

Spare Tire

How To Put On A Spare Tire

Today I’m sharing an instructional video on how to put on a spare tire if you ever get into such a situation while having an adventure. Knowing how to install a spare tire yourself can save you time and money. I made this for a video contest hosted by CARDONE. Be sure to vote for my video over on their site!

To vote, go here and click on that Vote button. That’s it. There’s no need to sign up or give your email. Just press that Vote button. You can do it once per day until the contest ends. If I win, it will help me get the equipment to achieve my goals. Thank you!

Whiteout photo by Dennis Spielman

Whiteout by Erwin Redl

New Uncovering Oklahoma story on Whiteout, an installation by artist Erwin Redl that uses a grid of 550 suspended LED bulbs to animate Campbell Art Park next to Oklahoma Contemporary. The bulbs turn off and on according to a computer program, creating a series of moving patterns that work in tandem with the surrounding environment.

I had a fun filming this light installation last night. In addition to this video, I had also planned to do a story on the Scantuary Haunt, however, they were hit by a tornado. Later tonight, weather permitting, I’m doing another Halloween themed story on the new RIVERSCREAM.
