Chili at The Red Cup

Oklahoma City Chili

In preparation for National Chili Day next week, I visited three restaurants in the Oklahoma City metro that serve bowls of chili as part of their regular menu. For this story, I traveled to Flint in Downtown Oklahoma City for their Bison Chili, The Red Cup in OKC for their vegetarian chili, and The Diner in Downtown Norman for their Championship Chili. The chili featured from each place is completely different from each other. Not only do all of these venues offer bowls of chili, but they also feature it on other menu items such as burgers.

National Chili Day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in February, which will be on February 28th for 2019.

Be sure to read the full story at Uncovering Oklahoma for more information about these places, including some recommendations to other places.

I’m planning on doing more themed videos in the future for Uncovering Oklahoma. It gives me a chance to feature older, more established places and to revisit places I haven’t been to in a while. After all, just because a place has been around, doesn’t mean that it’s not new to someone else. As for future themes, National Corn Dog Day is coming up next month…

Modern Haunted House still

Hashtag Modern Haunted House Problems.

Featuring the talents of Brian Gililland, Pallas, and myself, Dennis Spielman.

This was the second of two stories we filmed on location at Factory Obscura’s Beyond in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. See their next exhibition at FactoryObscura.com

Somehow, the house also mysteriously placed glasses on me when it got angry. Magic! Honestly, I didn’t realize I had put my glasses back on in between takes. I also didn’t realize that I made that mistake again when editing until it was pointed out by Pallas when I was reviewing it with them. It’s funny and weird, so I decided just to keep in the mistake. It was the best take after all.

Vacca Territory

In Yukon, Vacca Territory crafts handmade small batch Italian semifreddo (ice cream), specialty coffees, cinnamon rolls, breakfast sandwiches, scones, muffins, cookies, and more. In this interview, Mike Gray talks about the creamery and coffeehouse located on Route 66.

I personally had both a mocha and the peanut butter ice cream, which you can see pictured in the video thumbnail. They were delicious! If you find yourself in Yukon or doing a Route 66 road trip, give the whole building they’re in a visit. There’s another restaurant, Yocal, that I’ve heard good things about, but they are in the process of moving to a bigger spot in the same building, so there may be another story soon.

Oklahoma State Fair Food of 2017

On the opening day of the 2017 Oklahoma State Fair, I tried out some different foods, wandered around, and meet with eight different food vendors. Get hungry for the bigger, better, best Oklahoma State Fair.

I only ate the tacos and mac-and-cheese. Both were awesome and I can see why the tacos won the award for best new food. I also walked over 15,000 steps.

Hope you have fun at the fair!

This photo was one of those once in a lifetime opportunities. This skyline is actually on the east, opposite of the sunset on the west.
