The Gathering Place Coffee Co.

The Gathering Place Coffee Co. is a specialty coffee shop in Downtown Shawnee that seeks to be a home away from home for the community by providing a space to meet comfortably and build relationships.

Jamie Hembree and Josh Cotts share what visitors can expect my Uncovering Oklahoma story. This is the first of three stories that I have about Shawnee from my visit back on Thursday, September 28th.

Geologist & Teacher Lily Christman Peppers

Pallas the Librarian interviews Lily Christman Peppers, the Youth and School Program’s Coordinator at the Myriad Botanical Gardens. Lily also teaches Pallas how to make a terrarium and discuss the book, A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson

Lily Christman Peppers was born and raised in Cambridge, MA. She obtained her B.A. in Physics and Geology from the College of Wooster in Wooster, OH. After graduation in 2013, Lily began working as a geophysics researcher for the U.S. Geological Survey and Stanford University, studying electromagnetic data and its potential relation to earthquakes. She then came to work at the Myriad Botanical Gardens in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to pursue her love of nature and science education. She teaches a variety of botany, biology, and environmental education classes to kids of all ages. Lily loves reading with her cat, Ivan, on her lap, cooking with her husband, Matt, and exploring the outdoors solo or with friends.

Poe Bouyz House

Under construction since April 2015, Poe Bouyz House in Oklahoma City is now open to serve great seafood in a fun environment that feels like home. I interviewed the builder and owner, Tony Howard, and Chef GiGi about the story behind this unique restaurant, what food they offer, the artwork, and what visitors can expect to see.

This story is a follow-up to this sneak preview tour I did with Tony back in July 2017. Check out that story if you’re interested in seeing what it looked like before and why it’s taken so long to build. I personally had the combination of shrimp and catfish bo’ boy and the gumbo, and they were amazing.

Visit Poe Bouyz House along I-35 in Oklahoma City between NE 23rd Street and NE 36th Street at 3500 N. I-35 Service Road (3500 Frontage Road according to Google Maps). Be sure to follow them on Instagram or Twitter @poebouyzhouse as they are in the soft opening stages with select hours.

If you enjoy my videos, consider becoming a patron supporter. Each video takes me about a day to make, including scheduling, traveling, shooting, and editing. Parlor OKC Sneak Peek Tour

In this sneak peek video, general manager, Mark Burckel, gives a tour of the bar and food hall concept, Parlor OKC, coming to Automobile Alley in September. During this construction tour, Mark also talks about the restaurants coming to Parlor.

I’ve been invited to the VIP soft opening preview so watch my social media for pictures of that event. Also, stay tuned as after the Parlor opens, I plan to visit the venue again to interview the restaurant owners.
