Terry Storch joins Alex Lobodiak for a Startup Grind OKC fireside chat about Terry’s experiences co-founding the YouVersion Bible App and growing Life.Church through the innovative use of technology to spread the Gospel.

Terry Storch has served as the Digerati Leader, Pastor for Life.Church for the past 11 years. Meeting in 28 different locations, in nine states around the United States, and globally at Church Online, Life.Church is known for the innovative use of technology to spread the Gospel.

Ethos and SMO 21

Edited two new videos today! Both are under a minute, which was a goal when editing these pieces.

First up is about a new art show, Ethos, which features the work of Fringe: Women Artists of Oklahoma members Christie Hackler, Christie Owen, Behnaz Sohrabian, and Katie Henderson. Fringe is a collective of professional women artists in Oklahoma working in a variety of media and styles.

The next is an experimental video on SMO 21, an adults-only night at Science Museum Oklahoma. This style is different from what I normally do in that it uses text to talk about the event and that it’s under a minute.

Dr. Daniela Busciglio – An Applied Linguist

Dr. Daniela Busciglio is a professor of applied linguistics and owner of DFB Consulting. Her work focuses on values-based communications, messaging, branding, image, and PR strategies for individuals, groups, businesses, organizations, and candidates running for office and their campaign volunteers. Her unique three-pronged approach to messaging and communications is anchored in the research of prominent cognitive linguists, sociologists, psychologists, and cognitive neuroscientists such as Robb Willer, Erving Goffman, George Lakoff, Jonathan Haidt, David Ritchie, Walt Fisher, and Drew Westen. She also integrates coaching on prosody (intonation, stress, rhythm of speech), paralinguistic features (facial expressions, body language, gestures, tone and pitch of voice) as well as mindfulness training for enhancing focus and decreasing anxiety. She earned her MA and Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin-Madison and for the past three years, she was a professor of Italian and Second Language Acquisition at the University of Oklahoma. Her love of languages stemmed from her growing up bilingual in New Jersey, since her parents are both immigrants from Italy. She is currently preparing to offer an online live course on language and the brain.

I’m winding down the second season of Yes! Science! and making plans for the third season in the Spring of next year, which will take the show to a new level.

Bricktown Brewery's Basement - photo by Dennis Spielman

An Open Door in Bricktown

“Sam and Geoff meet up with Charles Stout, a walking encyclopedia for all things Bricktown Brewery. Stout shares the history of Oklahoma City’s Bricktown district as well as give a tour of a few unexplained things in the restaurant. The professor also reveals to Sam some research he’s been doing on a person of interest.”

A behind the scenes note, if I remember correctly, it was me who asked if we could see the basement. As I described it in the episode, it was neat. There’s a photo of it above.

On Sunday, September 23, we recorded the next two episodes of Tales Unveiled, which focus on Guthrie, Oklahoma. When we were there, I also recorded that voicemail from Brian used in this episode to help lead into the next storyline. We recorded the Guthrie stuff first before the end conversation between Geoff and Sam. I was able to add a foreboding line too, which I think was funny knowing what happens in the future.

Tales Unveiled is a production of The Show Starts Now Studios and is produced by me, Dennis Spielman. The voice of Sam Saxton is Dennis Spielman. The voice of Professor Geoff DeRoot is Jeff Provine. Featuring Charles Stout and Brian Gililland as themselves. Be sure to become a patron for early access to the next episodes, whenever I finish editing those.
