Poe Bouyz House

Under construction since April 2015, Poe Bouyz House in Oklahoma City is now open to serve great seafood in a fun environment that feels like home. I interviewed the builder and owner, Tony Howard, and Chef GiGi about the story behind this unique restaurant, what food they offer, the artwork, and what visitors can expect to see.

This story is a follow-up to this sneak preview tour I did with Tony back in July 2017. Check out that story if you’re interested in seeing what it looked like before and why it’s taken so long to build. I personally had the combination of shrimp and catfish bo’ boy and the gumbo, and they were amazing.

Visit Poe Bouyz House along I-35 in Oklahoma City between NE 23rd Street and NE 36th Street at 3500 N. I-35 Service Road (3500 Frontage Road according to Google Maps). Be sure to follow them on Instagram or Twitter @poebouyzhouse as they are in the soft opening stages with select hours.

If you enjoy my videos, consider becoming a patron supporter. Each video takes me about a day to make, including scheduling, traveling, shooting, and editing. Supporters get early access to new episodes, including exclusive full-length interviews, like my un-cut interview with Tony Howard about Poe Bouyz House.

Parlor OKC Sneak Peek Tour

In this sneak peek video, general manager, Mark Burckel, gives a tour of the bar and food hall concept, Parlor OKC, coming to Automobile Alley in September. During this construction tour, Mark also talks about the restaurants coming to Parlor.

I’ve been invited to the VIP soft opening preview so watch my social media for pictures of that event. Also, stay tuned as after the Parlor opens, I plan to visit the venue again to interview the restaurant owners.

Lobby Cafe and Shawnee

My wife and I visited the Lobby Cafe and Bar in Oklahoma City for the Influencers Lunch hosted by Edible Excellence. Then we traveled to Shawnee to explore their downtown scene and to check out the hot air balloon festival.

My wife and I visited the Lobby Cafe and Bar in Oklahoma City for the Influencers Lunch hosted by Edible Excellence. Then we traveled to Shawnee where we spent most of our day exploring their downtown scene and then paid a visit to the hot air balloon festival. This video is a quick recap of how we spent our Saturday. I plan to follow up with more detailed stories in the future.

We had a great time at the balloon festival and I would recommend it to people. This was our first visit there, so we mainly walked around to get a feel for the event. There was a ton to see and do there, including live music, games, food trucks, wildlife expo, and more. Next year I plan to go back to do a more an in-depth story for Uncovering Oklahoma. We spent most of our time Saturday exploring Downtown Shawnee, which is why the part about the balloon festival is more of a brief mention than a review. We were also wanting to avoid getting heat exhaustion at this point as it was over 100 that day.

Overall, there are places worth visiting in Shawnee.

The Yard

The Yard is an outdoor beer garden in Oklahoma City’s Automobile Alley that offers a laid back patio experience with sunshine, green trees, and cold beer. General Manager, Ty Clair, shares the origin story and what guests can expect.

This is my first Uncovering Oklahoma story where I went all out with my drone to capture b-roll. My story on FRIDA Southwest had one outside shot, but The Yard story features several shots. The Yard was perfect for that kind of b-roll, which I took at an influencer lunch hosted by Edible Excellence.

Visit The Yard for yourself at 21 NW 7th Street in Oklahoma City or their website at TheYardOKC.com

Exhibit 2 at Verbode

A new art show, Verbode Urban Core Artists, features the work of Christie Owen, Denise Duong, Jason Pawley, Kerri Shadid, Mat Hoffman, Matt Glazner, Nathan Lee, and Reian Williams. The collective of professional artists are from Oklahoma and work in a variety of media and styles.

Verbode Urban Core Artists is an artist-run curatorial and event collaborative founded in 2016 by Verbode real estate owner, Sarah Bytiqi and artist, Christie Owen in Oklahoma City. The real estate group provides Christie with a showroom for the year and hosts quarterly openings. Christie elected to invite her fellow artists to participate as an initiative to attract more attention and support for local artists.

Christie Owen organizes, promotes and curates visually stimulating and dynamic art exhibits that reflect the flourishing creativity of the Oklahoma art community. The mission of these art exhibits is to develop new relationships and encourage networking through an understanding and appreciation of art’s vital role in our community.

Sarah Bytiqi offers the space at Verbode as a home for art and to engage a diverse cross-section of the public by hosting free and open to the public exhibits in an alternative space.

Verbode Urban Core Artists will donate a portion of all art sales from the show to The Homeless Alliance. Verbode is a residential real estate brokerage located in the TAP Architecture Building in downtown Oklahoma City. Visitors can view the exhibit Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm between July 25, 2019, and September 18, 2019.
