Factory Obscura’s Beyond

My brief thoughts on Factory Obscura’s Beyond exhibition during their pass holder preview party on September 21, 2018. Factory Obscura is an Oklahoma City-based art collective creating immersive experiences, challenging the participant to physically explore full-sensory environments.

I’m working on scheduling an interview with some of the creative team behind Factory Obscura for Uncovering Oklahoma.

Artists of the Autumn Pop Up - photo by Dennis Spielman

Autumn Pop-Up at Nault Gallery

Autumn Pop Up, a show exhibiting new work from the studios of Anthony Dyke, Susan Morrison-Dyke, Suzanne Mears and Christie Owen, opened on Friday, September 14th from 6 pm to 9 pm at Nault Gallery in Midtown.

All four artists are well-established and highly visible artists in the Oklahoma City metro area and beyond. The show offers a beautiful exhibition consisting of large and small abstract paintings that share a common connecting thread when hung together. The tactile and visceral paintings, create a strong impression of kindred spirits among the four artists and their love for the physical act of painting. These artists take their work to a place where the viewer is allowed to simply enjoy the physicality of the medium, the lushness of paint and brushstrokes cutting contours to create form and space in fields of spatial ambiguity. The generous wall space, loft-like ceilings an abundance of beautiful, natural light at Nault Gallery, the artists believe provide the ideal atmosphere in which to view their works.

This may not look like it, which is the intention after all, but I’m proud of how well I edited all four of their statements together. I was experimented with a different color correction tool, adjusting curves, and I like how more blended the image looks.

A Paramount Discovery in Film Row

Inspired by a mysterious EVP message, Sam and Geoff visit The Paramount Building in Oklahoma City’s Film Row. As they learn the history and paranormal tales of the district, Sam starts to scratch the surface of Geoff’s past.

This episode featured four guests, our most yet, for Tales Unveiled. It’s also the longest so far at 37:52. We recorded interviews on Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday I edited, Thursday I did four other projects, and Friday I finished this episode.

The next episode focus on Bricktown, which we recorded yesterday at Bricktown Brewery with Charles Stout. I’m working on getting one more interview for that episode. Be sure to subscribe to new episodes via Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Stitcher, YouTube, or right here.

Tales Unveiled is a production of The Show Starts Now Studios and is produced by me, Dennis Spielman. The voice of Sam Saxton is Dennis Spielman. The voice of Professor Geoff DeRoot is Jeff Provine. Featuring Bradley Wynn, Alyx Picard Davis, Elizabeth Macias, and Cortney Kane Sides as themselves.

Oklahoma State Fair Food 2018

Yesterday, I visited the Oklahoma State Fair to sample some of the new and award-winning fair foods as well as hear from food vendors talk about their specials this year. The 2018 Oklahoma State Fair started on September 13th and goes through the 23rd. For a complete list of the new foods, read my story on Uncovering Oklahoma.

Ride OKC

Growing from a passion to see places one normally doesn’t see, Ride OKC offers people unique tours of Oklahoma City via bicycle. Ashely and Ryan Fogle of Ride OKC, along with Bailey Gordon of Cookie Tour, share what riders can expect. If you’re a cookie connoisseur, this video includes footage from the Cookie Bike Tour.

I personally had a great time with Ride OKC on the Cookie Bike Tour. Their tours make for a great date. A while back I posted an adventure vlog about my time with them and AMP Festival, which I’ve included below.

Next week’s featured video will be on a coffee shop that I visited in Tulsa while I was there for the Gathering Place.
