“The Oklahoma City Museum of Art is honored to be one of the co-organizers of this prestigious retrospective and national tour,” said President and CEO E. Michael Whittington. “This is the first time de Borchgrave’s four innovative paper fashion collections have been shown together and visitors will enjoy both the scale of the works and range of styles presented. From Marie de Medici to Coco Chanel to Les Ballets Russes, this exhibition is sure to amaze and delight.”

The exhibition will run until September 9, 2018.

Third Thursdays at the Museum

The Oklahoma City Museum of Art’s Third Thursdays program features live music, a special menu at the Museum Cafe, full bar on the Roof Terrace, and access to the Museum’s galleries. Admission is just $5; food and libations are available at an additional cost. This year, the Museum’s Roof Terrace will be open to the public only during Third Thursday events.

“The Museum has always been busy on Thursday evenings,” said E. Michael Whittington, President and CEO. “We are thrilled to offer even more reasons to visit with our new Third Thursday series presented by Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores. Throughout the year, Third Thursday will be a fantastic way to visit the Museum and channel your ‘inner Michelangelo’ while enjoying great food and drinks in a unique atmosphere. We are grateful to Love’s for their partnership in this innovative new Museum program.”

“We are excited to support a full year of Third Thursdays,” added Jenny Love Meyer, vice president of communications at Love’s. “The recent growth and development of our downtown area has been significant and Third Thursdays will continue to build on this momentum. We believe the arts are a vital part of a vibrant downtown and are committed to increasing access for everyone in our community.”

The Museum will continue extended hours and $5 admission every Thursday, but special programming and the opening of the Roof Terrace will occur only on the third Thursday of the month.

Admission to the Museum on Thursday evenings is $5, and no other discounts apply. Admission for Museum members is always free. More information about Third Thursdays, including how to purchase tickets, can be found on the Museum’s website, okcmoa.com.

Sophia Massad – Alone at Night

In this music session, I visited indie/alternative musician, Sophia Massad, in the Plaza District. In this video, Sophia shares the history of her musical journey, what inspires her, and talks about her newest single, Alone at Night, which she also performs for Uncovering Oklahoma.

I haven’t filmed a music session in ages. Mainly, I had struggled with making the videos look good. By working on Yes! Science! I got better at editing solo interviews without needing b-roll. I’m happy with how well this turned out! If people like it, I’ll be sure to do some more.

“Alone at Night” will be available everywhere on July 6th, 2018. The song is Massad’s second release in the past three months. “Insecurities” released in early May, having been met with such a warm reception, getting articles in multiples magazines, newspapers, blogs, and radio play, Massad’s fan base began to thrive. With “Alone at Night” being fully written and engineered by Sophia Massad herself, there is plenty of excitement for the new single release. There will be a single release party on July 6th at VZD’s with Bowsley and Johnny Manchild and the Poor Bastards.

The single features Tristan Todd from Pax on lead guitar, Tyler Sexton with a second guitar part, Chris Anderson on bass, Brock Wilson on drums, and Garrison Brown on the horns, and the song was mixed and mastered by Dustin Ragland. Massad released her first album in 2014, joined The So Help Me’s in 2017, and most recently started this passion project with the mission to create and share her rawest music. Her style, inspired by the Alabama Shakes and Amy Winehouse, is both formidable and poetically honest.

Sophia Massad and her band will be playing at Heard on Hurd in Edmond on July 21st and are preparing to announce tour dates.

Preview Promo for Tales Unveiled

Season One of Tales Unveiled is set to premiere on Friday, July 13th! We had released preview promo for the series to get the RSS feed going and start the submission process for the iTunes store. In the trailer, Jeff Provine (the voice of Geoff DeGroot) and myself (the voice of Sam Saxton), talked about the series and play a clip from the first episode.

However, as the show progressed and we switched service providers, the Tales Unveiled feed no longer includes the preview promo.

Wheelhouse Pizza Kitchen

Wheelhouse Pizza Kitchen

Wheelhouse Pizza Kitchen is Oklahoma City’s newest by-the-slice pizzeria with a dedication to speed of service and quality fare. Featuring made-from-scratch ingredients and an upbeat atmosphere, Wheelhouse delivers the family-friendly fun and delicious food.

In this interview, Managing Partner, Michael Jones, talks about Wheelhouse Pizza Kitchen and how they combine the quality and service of a traditional restaurant with the speed of to-go ordering. From pizza-by-the-slice and boneless and bone-in wings, to sandwiches and salads, there’s something for everyone on the menu. Their menu features the “daily slice,” giving you the option to choose from one of six daily slices, starters, salads, 20” specialty and build your own pizzas, sandwiches and desserts. Plus, they are pet-friendly with hookups for dogs on their outdoor patio.

Wheelhouse Pizza Kitchen is brand new. They opened to the public on Monday. On Tuesday, they had a media preview event at 11 am. I came in early at 9 to do the interview and so I shot and edited this video in the same day. You may notice some other local media personalities in the video like Jack & Ron.

Mary James Ketch and Erica Bonavida at Persistence of Vision

Persistence of Vision

Persistence of Vision celebrates the emotions, sensations, and knowledge that remain after we close our eyes. The show at Verbode features the work of Fringe artists Mary James Ketch, Erica Bonavida, and Becky Arman.

Mary James Ketch’s paintings are dream-like distillations of everyday life. Her narrative work draws on childhood memories, family life, and the surrounding land. Her colors and lines are soft, inviting the viewer to be enfolded in their story.

Erica Bonavida paints large photorealistic images of fabric. Many of her subjects are vintage pieces with personal and family significance. As a result, her art reminds us of the moments of life bound up in the materials we touch.

Becky Arman explores color and form in her resin paintings. Her abstract pieces often call to mind water lapping the sand or stars in the night sky. They invite us to question our perception.

Fringe is a collective of professional women artists in Oklahoma working in a variety of media and styles. Fringe artists will donate a portion of all art sales from the show to The Homeless Alliance.

Verbode, a residential real estate brokerage, is located at 415 North Broadway, Suite 101 in Oklahoma City, in the TAP Architecture Building. Persistence of Vision runs from June 21 to August 23, 2018. Visitors can view the show Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. The artists will give a talk on August 23 at 6 pm at Verbode. For more information about Fringe and its member artists, visit fringeok.com. For more information about Verbode, visit verbodegroup.com.
