Urban Art on Uncovering Oklahoma

On Uncovering Oklahoma, I released a new video on Urban Art. Urban Art houses Art Fusion Studio, Istvan Gallery, Maya Trading Company, and the Blue Sage Glass Blowing Studio. I personally enjoy going to the artist openings Istvan Gallery holds (which was when this video was recorded). If your family is visiting and you want to show them something cool in Oklahoma City, take them to Urban Art

The video actually started out as just a segment on Istvan Gallery, however, Stephen Kovash encouraged me to include all of Urban Art. I was able to meet with each of the owners that night and they were gracious enough to talk to me despite the short notice. Filming this video really stressed the importance of having a second battery for my new camera. Typically, I’m in and out of a place in about an hour, but there are going to be times where I’m including video from an event or the place is just simply large. I went out and brought one the following Sunday.

I recorded a bunch of materiel that didn’t make it into the final video. I’ll release full length artist interviews throughout the next few weeks. Some of the quotes I got from the owners I’m saving for my Uncovering Oklahoma book.

I’m happy with how the video turned out. Although I need not be afraid to make people repeat quotes if something goes wrong or doesn’t sound smooth. It’s amazing how much I learn from doing each video even though I’ve doing this for over two years now. Scenarios change.

Enjoy the video!

Pictures by Stf Bidelspach

I think it’s time for some pictures of myself.

On the About page, I’ve uploaded a photo shoot set taken by awesome and entertaining Stf Bidelspach in Norman, Oklahoma on Friday, November 4, 2011. If you need pictures taken, contact her. The logo has been updated with a photo from the session.

November 2011 Goals

New month, new goals!

Children’s Book
I’ve written out a story for a children’s sci-fi/fantasy book series. My goal is to work with an artist to bring it to life.

Mini-Series
National Novel Writing Month? Not me. I’m working on a script for a mini series that can be simply described as a cross between Heroes and Firefly with stylings of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. I have all sorts of scenes and parts written out along with some production challenges figured out. My goal is to have a written out draft by the end of the month.

Wild Improv Challenge!
This series sort of fizzled out last month, but I’m feeding it this month. My goal is to film enough challenges to put together a DVD/Blu-ray in time for a Christmas present.

Will I accomplish these goals? Stay tuned to find out! Some other things to look forward to this month: the release of my murder mystery party game, great gift ideas from Uncovering Oklahoma, and maybe even a new short story.

Recently Recorded (Oct 5)

Here are some of my favorite performances I have recently filmed:

Twinprov: Rap-Sody – True Agnosticsm – Oct. 1, 2011
Twinprov, made up of OKC Improv artistic directors and twin brothers Buck and Clint Vrazel, performing their acclaimed “Hip Hop Harold” musical improv long-form, Rap-sody at OKC Improv on October 1, 2011. The suggestion was “true agnosticism.” They are joined on stage by musician Kyle Gossett (Trouble Clef).

Short, Round, and Brown Act 1 and Act 2
Short, Round & Brown. One Woman. Plus. Featuring Cristela Carrizales as she tells stories and sings about her life.

Red Letters @ OKC Improv – Oct. 1, 2011
Red Letters’s off the rails performance from OKC Improv show featuring Bryan Buckley and a deliriously and hilariously jet-legged Alyssa Buckley!

It’s Momma @ OKC Improv – Oct. 1, 2011
OKC Improv debut of the one-man show “It’s Momma” created by and starring actor/improviser Rory Littleton (Everybody and Their Dog) in which he plays an exuberant woman known as Momma inspired by the many strong female influences in his life.

Pinkitzel Video

Uncovering Oklahoma’s first HD video is sweet! I’ve been wanting to do this show in HD for a years and now my first HD video is online. For the latest Uncovering Oklahoma video, I interviewed Cher Casso of the fairy tale inspired candy shop, Pinkitzel. Watch the HD video to find what treats Pinkitzel offers, what makes the shop special, and the meaning of Pinkitzel’s name. More information and pictures can be found on the Pinkitzel page.

The video was shot with my new Canon Rebel T3i. It did a great job. I really liked the whole tapeless process of shooting video. Transferring clips is way faster and easier than capturing footage. The ability to switch between video and photo was wonderful and so useful.

The same day I was out filming this video, I did the first episode of my new Wild Improv Challenge series with Raychel Winstead. A few days later, I shot the second episode. So far, so good.
