Foolish Things: Bar and Biscuit and Foolish Things Coffee Co

Yesterday for Uncovering Oklahoma, I first visited Foolish Things: Bar and Biscuit in Tulsa’s Brookside District where they’re exploring the depth and breadth of a bar program with coffee in the morning, cocktails in the evening, and floral bar all day with a food program. Then owner Justin Carpenter gave me a tour of his first business, Foolish Things Coffee Co, in the Cathedral District.

I went to Tulsa and edited the video back home on the same day. The last time I did a video about Tulsa was on Gathering Place and Shades of Brown. Along the way, I was brainstorming ideas for the second season of Tales Unveiled, which Jeff and I will start recording next month. June is already looking to be pretty busy for me, mainly because this year I’ll be filming for deadCenter.

Next week, I’m doing an episode on creative burgers in Oklahoma City. Art & Victory will be on Monday with the topic of writing stories at The Depot. deadCenter starts on Thursday through Sunday.

Shades of Brown

Shades of Brown is a place where you can come and be your total self while having a really good cup of coffee. Owner, Melinda Curren, and barista, Ben Udwin, discuss the vibe this Brookside coffee shop in Tulsa.

I filmed this video the same day I was in Tulsa for the Gathering Place preview. I’m glad I was able to film two stories that day and in Tulsa for that matter, which I normally don’t get around to doing stories there.

Shades of Brown isn’t too far away from the Gathering Place, so if you’re in Tulsa I hope you enjoy the video and check out them both out.

Gathering Place

Gathering Place is a park like none other in Tulsa for everyone to enjoy. Gathering Place is entirely free to the public and is an adventure sure to inspire wonderful moments for generations to come. Josh Wright and Cayla Lewis give a tour of the park, which opens to the public on September 8, 2018.

This video was filmed yesterday as part of a media preview event. Besides me with Uncovering Oklahoma, there was only one other news organization from the Oklahoma City area. We had a blast at Gathering Place. There’s so much to see and do there. I think we saw most of it. One of the things I know we didn’t see was the restaurants there as they were still working on them.

Teaming up with Josh Wright and Cayla Lewis again was great. Josh filmed a vlog from his perspective of Gathering Place. If you want to see more of the park, including what it was like for us to film there, check it out. It’s pretty funny.

While I was in the area, I also did an interview at the Brookside coffeeshop, Shades of Brown. Be on the lookout for that video in a couple of weeks. After I filmed that interview, I made my way home and got back around 6:30. Overall, a great day in Tulsa.

Thank you to my supporters on Patreon who help make this show possible! If you want to see me travel to more places outside of the Oklahoma City area, became a patron.

My Art and Music Filled Weekend

Over the weekend, I went to an art opening at IAO Gallery, a Firefly Rooftop Concert, WestFest, Norman Porch Fest, 108 Contemporary, and the Oklahoma Aquarium. I spoke with Kyle Larson about his exhibit, “Better Off Lost,” at the art opening. At the Firefly Rooftop Concert, I interviewed with Shelly Phelps about her music and her thoughts on the concert series. Then at WestFest, Rob Crissinger and I chatted about the music festival and Hideaway Pizza. Finally, I talk about our trip to Tulsa where my wife and I visited 108 Contemporary and the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks.
