Oklahoma City Event Venues

For this week’s video, I’ve highlighted several different places in Oklahoma City where you can host your next event. This story doesn’t include every single event venue available for rent, but it does showcase a wide variety of options and price points. Featured in this video is V2 at Vast, Plenty, the OKC Boathouses, The Paramount Room, Will Rogers Theatre, Myriad Botanical Gardens, The Farmers Market, and PhotoArt Studios. In the video, I’ve given each place about a minute to talk about themselves. Then over at Uncovering Oklahoma, there’s an article that goes into more details about what they offer.

With the proposals that come during Valentine’s Day, I thought a story about event venues would be appropriate. I got to thinking about this idea when I met up with an owner of an upcoming event venue space who reached out to me about a possible story. They, unfortunately, weren’t in the video because, at the time, they were doing some remodeling.

I’m curious to see how well this video does because it is a departure from my usual videos.

The Ruins Bar & Grille and The Sanctuary Escape

When the haunted house attraction, The Sanctuary OKC, moved to their new location, they sought to expand their offerings with a restaurant, escape room games, and a live concert venue. Tino Pascuzzi and Leslie Damron talk about The Ruins Bar & Grille. Then in the second half of the video, Louie Hernandez and Christina Imboden discuss The Sanctuary Escape.

Their escape rooms are especially cool because the door you enter isn’t the door you exit. There are multiple rooms and sometimes you’ll have to backtrack to get out of another section. With the restaurant, you can eat before or after a game too.

Glitter Ball 2018 Recap

In this Glitter Ball 2018 Recap video, Katie Parker interviews notable guests such as Lance McDaniel, Jabee, Cacky Poarch, and Melissa Scaramucci. Glitter Ball, the winter dance party and art extravaganza presented by Dunlap Codding and benefitting deadCenter Film, returned to the historic Film Row on Friday, January 26. This year’s party featured a Glam Rock theme with more music, dancing, and visual spectacle than ever before.

At Glitter Ball, deadCenter Film honored both Cacky Poarch and Melissa Scaramucci with its prestigious Festival ICON Award. Poarch and Scaramucci were at the helm of deadCenter Film Festival from 2003 -2010 and continue to play a substantial role in the success of the organization.

For all of the interviews Katie did at the event, watch the above Glitter Ball 2018 Pink Carpet Interview Collection video.

Bowls at Gogi Go - photo by Dennis Spielman

Gogi Go

Gogi Go is a Korean fast casual concept located in Oklahoma City’s Midtown District that specializes in Korean BBQ rice bowls and burritos. In this interview, John Lee, Dan Johnson, and Danh Do talk about guests can expect, including the mural by Kris Kanaly.

I’m working on getting back on a regular schedule, trying to film interviews at least a week before they air. In the past few weeks, I’ve reached out to several people for interviews, but I have yet to hear back or get them scheduled. This includes interviews for Yes! Science!

Art Moves

Art Moves

In a mission to spread art to the public, the Arts Council OKC provides free arts events in Oklahoma City with the Art Moves initiative. Held on each workday from Noon to 1:00 pm, Art Moves events may include artist demonstrations or musical performances, and take place in various locations, primarily in the downtown area. The daily line-up features a wide range of artistic mediums such as live art demonstrations, musical performances of all genres, theatrical shows, poetry, short film selections, and more!

This week’s video is part a segment from my documentary, Inviting Art, which explores the impact of the arts in the city. This video does include some changes from the original version. On the subject of Inviting Art, I am excited to announce that Inviting Art will air on OETA HD on February 26 at 10 pm! It will be a special 30-minute version, highlighting the best and most important parts of my documentary.
