Bayly

Bayly is a plant house and floral studio in downtown Shawnee that specializes in houseplants and plant accessories as well as botanically inspired gifts. Owner Callie Ingram shares the story of how she and husband use plants to bring light into people’s lives.

This is the third and last of my Uncovering Oklahoma stories on Shawnee for now. I plan to go back in October/November for some of the retail shops.

Visit Bayly Botanicals for yourself at 415 East Main Street in Shawnee or their website at baylybotanicals.com

Oklahoma State Fair Food 2019

I visited the 2019 Oklahoma State Fair with Meg Cathey and Tabbi Burwell of Visit OKC on opening day to sample some of the new and award-winning fair foods. We managed to visit eight places – The Urb Express, Cutie Pies Concession, Cookie Dough Monsters, Minneapple Pie, Project Krave, Freed Family Farm, Cheese Curd Tacos, and Oklahoma Pork Council – before we got too full.

The 2019 Oklahoma State Fair starts September 12th and goes through the 22nd.

Remedies at Medicine Park

In the season two premiere of Tales Unveiled, Sam Saxton meets with Detective Valerie James to follow up with what he discovered in the underground tunnels. A few months later, Professor Geoff DeRoot calls Sam about some stories about Medicine Park that might relate to their experience.

The two travel to the Oklahoma resort town where they interview Colleen Meridon of the Blue-Eyed Coyote Guest House; Gary Gregory of Discover Medicine Park Oklahoma; and Penny Sanders and Gini Lansden at The Branded Bear.

Tales Unveiled is a production of The Show Starts Now Studios and is produced by me, Dennis Spielman. The voice of Sam Saxton is Dennis Spielman. The voice of Professor Geoff DeRoot is Jeff Provine.

We would like to thank our guests for sharing their stories with us: Colleen Meridon of the BlueEyed Coyote Guest House; Gary Gregory of Discover Medicine Park Oklahoma; and Penny Sanders and Gini Lansden at The Branded Bear.

This episode also featured the voice talents of Kristy Boone as Detective Valerie James.

Also a special thanks to Commonplace Books in Oklahoma City for hosting the detective meeting scene.

Uncovering Art & Architecture with Ride OKC

Ryan Fogle of Ride OKC gave me a sample bicycle tour of Oklahoma City’s Art & Architecture in this sponsored Uncovering Oklahoma episode. Experience downtown Oklahoma City with unforgettable bike tours and rentals offering insight into the unique history, art, architecture, craft beer and local food with Ride OKC.

I had a great time biking around the city with Ryan. As part of the sponsorship package, I also made him mini-videos of each of the stops for his social media accounts.

Book your bike tour at www.RideOKC.com. I’ve personally done the cookie tour, which I did a video about a while back, and that was a blast.

Bonus Video: I could TELL you why you should ride a bike along the Oklahoma River in Oklahoma City, or I can SHOW you a tiny selection of the trail system. Featuring Ryan Fogle of Ride OKC for this journey.

Theopolis Social Club

From a desire to create something new, Theopolis Social Club doesn’t require a membership to gather with friends. Cami Engles, Leanne Wright, and Rich Sauve talk about this brasserie-style destination in Shawnee where wine, cocktails, food, and culture collide in a modern, eclectic space.

This is the second of three stories I made about Shawnee that I shot a few weeks ago. This video features a brand new lower-third, title card, and end credits. I originally made the lower-third for a sponsored video, but I liked it so much I decided to make it my new graphic going forward.

Visit Theopolis at 419 East Main Street in Shawnee or their website at www.TheopolisSC.com. Interested in a deep dive of Theopolis’ origin story and want to help support Uncovering Oklahoma? Become a patron and watch the full 30-minute interview session.
