Some cuteness for your Monday.
Here are our two dogs, Tia and Sasha, looking out the window on a Monday morning.

What a better way to celebrate Uncovering Oklahoma’s seventh year anniversary today than with a video about the ninth annual Norman Music Festival, which will take place in Downtown Norman on April 21, 22, and 23 in 2016. To simply put it, the Norman Music Festival is a massive three-day festival with nearly every genre of music represented. To get to best the feel and advice for the event, along with the restaurants in the Downtown Norman area, watch my film above.
As you can see with this video, I have done away the “weekly talk and travel show” format that I had experimented with back last winter. To be honest, I had shot a version of this video in the talk show format, however, I simply didn’t like how it turned out, how it looked visually, and mostly me as a host. But as you can see, I came up with a Plan B! I loved as to how well this turned out.
Going forward, there will be weekly videos similar to this style featuring creative people, places, and events throughout Oklahoma.
To learn more about some of the bands performing at the festival, click here for my Q&A interview series of performers, past and present, over on Uncovering Oklahoma. I’ve been rather busy with band interviews!
Stay turned! There are so many wonderful things to see.
The Plaza District, Film Row, Western Avenue, and H&8th. Each of these Oklahoma City districts may have a unique history and aesthetic, but they also have something in common: over the past few years they all have experienced a revival with the creation of regular events that bring businesses, neighbors, and “outsiders” together. This feature-length documentary shares stories and advice on district revitalization throughout Oklahoma City from the people who helped create positive change in their communities and want to inspire others to do the same.
When I started Uncovering Oklahoma, the main mission was to show people that there were interesting and fun things to do in Oklahoma. However, there has always been a secondary mission to make Oklahoma more interesting. District Up is the first major project to not only help make Oklahoma more lively, but other communities as well with stories and advice from those who helped creative positive change.
District Up will be traveling the film festival circuit this summer and fall. Hopefully, fingers crossed, District Up will make its world premiere at the deadCENTER Film Festival!
But Wait! There’s More!
I am excited to announce that I’m shifting to do Uncovering Oklahoma full time! What this means is there will be more content more regularly, both Uncovering Oklahoma and here. The weekly show I did a test run last year, will make its return with refinements. There will be improvements throughout Uncovering Oklahoma, such as area guides with information about places. I’ll have more time for my creative projects too.
I have a ton of exciting things in the works and I hope to continue to follow me! Thank you everyone for their support and those that have helped make everything possible.
I walked about five miles today checking out all of the St. Patrick’s Day activities happening in Oklahoma City for Uncovering Oklahoma. I had shared my adventures live on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook so if you missed anything, here’s my recap.
The most family friendly St. Patrick’s Day event award for the day I have to say goes to the Myriad Gardens. There were games, food, and performances. The white dog in the photos is a therapy dog named Apollo. Yes, I petted the doggie. The small dog with hat was named Snickers. Food trucks at the Myriad Gardens included: The Healthy Hippo, Twist Pretzels, and Junction Coffee, which is a coffee bar inside a double-decker bus (I have them slated to be on the Uncovering Oklahoma Weekly show). There was a ton of children’s activities, including art and guy building a bird’s nest for kids to play in.
For the holiday, I got lunch from St. Paddy Cakes and some cookies from Pitchfork Kitchen. Yum!
Along the way to Stop Three: Katiebug’s
I took this picture of Katiebug’s spring break trailer park they had set up next to Bleu Garten. They’re an OKC food truck serving natural shaved ice, hot chocolate, and organic artisan marshmallows. They are worth checking out!
McNellie’s in the Midtown District had a block party for the adults. Opolis Clothing was there selling St. Patrick’s Day and OKC themed shirts, which was the only t-shirt vendor I saw today selling St. Patrick’s Day themed clothes.
In addition to the block party all of the Midtown Plaza Court shops, like TRADE Men’s Wares and The Black Scintilla, were open.
The main attraction at the Bricktown St. Patrick’s Block Party was the live music. There were also food trucks along with all of the usual Bricktown activities, like mini-golf, movies, restaurants, bowling, canal rides, and more.
I wandered around Bricktown and took this photo of the canal. Love this pic.
Fifth Stop: Home.
My wife got off work so I came home and meet up with her. We took the dogs for walked first before we headed to Oklahoma City.
Started the ShopHop event, which happens Every Third Thursday in the Automobile Alley District, with dinner at Peloton Wine Bar. My wife and I browsed around the few shops that were open. I bought myself a new t-shirt from SHOP GOOD. It’s part of their new spring line of clothes.
After ShopHop, we called it night and rightful so!
I hope you had a great St. Patrick’s Day!
Just a quick status update on my feature length documentary, District Up, to show off a picture of me editing the film while drinking a mocha my wife made. The mocha was great and the film is coming along great too!
